What song is the Chipmunks Dance?

Two commercial recordings, mixed by a TikTok user:

• “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”, Dead or Alive’s 1984 single on Epic (Wikipedia). The Chipmunks covered it for the soundtrack of Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (2009, Rhino / Fox Music), where it is track 4 (Wikipedia). The same cover is in the 2011 video game Chipwrecked (Nintendo World Report).
• “Big and Chunky” by will.i.am, from the soundtrack of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008, Interscope).

The sound’s original post names both in its caption: “You spin me round x big and chunky”. One thing is not settled: whether the high voice is The Chipmunks’ cover or Dead or Alive’s original pitched up. As of November 3, 2026 we had not confirmed it by ear, and the cover is the likelier of the two.

Why it is hard to tell: The Chipmunks’ voices are sped-up, high-pitched singing, so their cover and a sped-up original sound much alike on a phone speaker. Telling them apart takes a side-by-side listen against the soundtrack version. Until someone does that, the safest name for the sound is the one its uploader gave it.

Squeakquel or Chipwrecked?

Pages about the trend give two answers: the song is from The Squeakquel soundtrack, or it is from the Chipwrecked dance game. Both are right about the cover, which is on both. But the TikTok sound is neither track as released. It is a fan mashup with “Big and Chunky”, and the dance itself comes from neither the film nor the game.

A 2024 wave of trio videos used the official Chipmunks sound on TikTok (about 50.2K videos on November 3, 2026). The 2026 routine runs on the mashup instead.

The TikTok sounds: which one to pick

The mashup isn’t in TikTok’s music library. It lives on as user uploads of one recording: we lined them up, and they match (correlation 0.94 to 0.995) with offsets of 0 to 0.16 seconds.

Each upload is the same stretch of about 25 seconds, used whole from 0:00, which is why the posts all run that long.

Pick “original sound - Spotifyremixes_”: 18 of the 25 top posts use it, against 6 for keiford’s, so your post sits on the busiest sound page. Nobody will notice keiford’s delay of 0.16 seconds.
